The RYA Youth Stage 1 course will give you a basic understanding of how a boat sails, with some experience of steering and handling the boat. It covers launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, and basic sailing. After the course you will be able to steer and understand basic principles of sailing. No previous experience is necessary.
RYA Youth Stage 2 focuses on developing core sailing skills, including tacking, gybing, steering, and sailing on all points of sail. You will continue to practice essential safety techniques, such as capsize recovery and responding to minor problems, while gaining more responsibility for rigging and handling the boat. Prerequisite is RYA Youth Stage 1 or equivalent experience.
Please state whether the booking is for a Stage 1 or Stage 2 course.
Clothing and personal equipment:
Wetsuit and spray top. Please wear suitable footwear, either wetsuit boots, wet shoes or old trainers. We do not allow flip flops/crocs. We can provide a buoyancy aid, but if you have your own buoyancy aid we recommend you wear this as you know it fits and is comfortable.
Please bring a packed lunch.
