CHANGING ROOM CLEAN UP!
Our changing rooms are becoming extremely untidy and sometimes used as a dumping ground for kit!
These are a few pics form the men's changing room taken recently, and as you can see a variety of kit is being left behind it's not only untidy but can be a hygiene issue, so we need to clear it up.
A decision has been taken therefore that any personal items left in either the mens' or womens' changing rooms after the end of the month will be disposed of. So if you're missing any of your stuff come and collect it NOW!
many thanks

- Bar News -

Dear All.
I hope you are all well. I would like to announce that we are sadly losing one of our long standing staff members. Emma Holt has decided to pursue a new opportunity and will be leaving us this month, her last day shift will be Sunday 15th September so please come and make it a good one.
Emma has been with the club working behind the bar since March 2016 and has always been a friendly face on a Sunday. She has been a valuable member of the team and will still be a part of the club as our Social Secretary but we are saddened to see her go from the bar.
We would like to wish her the best in all of her future endeavours and thank her for all of her hard work and dedication over the years.
Best Wishes Emma
From all the team

Get Afloat and Supported Sailing Sessions
Get Afloat Session for SUP, Kayaking and Dinghy Sailing.
If you would like to come along, please log onto the members section of the club website and book a place via the club Events Calendar. Events : Portchester Sailing Club (portchestersc.org)
Supported Sailing Dinghy Sessions coming up on the following dates
- - Sunday 15th September 10:30 13:30
- -Sunday 22nd September 13:00 16:00
- -Sunday 6th October 13:00 16:00
-
Although we are happy to accommodate beginners, the Sunday sessions are aimed at coaching and mentoring dinghy sailing and members who know the basics but want to improve and move to the next level, whether being able to sail independently, to hone a specific
skill such as sailing up wind, sail controls/boat trim, or even using spinnakers and starting to race etc.
The Supported Sailing Sessions will run alongside the cadet sailing sessions and are aimed at adults.
Bookings are now open for these sessions via the club events calendar, there is a nominal £5 per person for the Sunday sessions.
Final Cruiser Racing
We have two races to go
- - Thursday 12th September Final Harbour Evening Series
- - Saturday 5th October - Rum Run
For further information please contact cruiser@portchestersc.org.uk
Winter Dinghy Sailing and Dinghy on Keel Compound Space
Although we still have four weeks to go of our main sailing season, sadly we need to start thinking about preparing the club compound to allow for the winter cruiser lay-up. Please can we remind all members with boats on keel in the compound, including tenders, small fishing/power boats that are not stored in the stand-up racks, these need to be removed from the compound by midday on Saturday 12th October. Boats may only be kept in the compound after the 12th October with permission from the Bosun
To allow sailing to continue over the winter, some limited space will be available for sailing dinghies in the area directly adjacent to the Club House where the picnic benches are. If you would like to apply for space in this area, please email sailsec@portchestersc.org.uk no later than the 22nd September. Priority will be given to members actively participating in our winter sailing program.
SOS - Save our Sailing (Committee!)
A big thank you to Steve and the sailing committee who have had a very busy fun packed season, not only with our usual activities (dinghy and cruiser racing, rallies and 'get afloat Fridays' to name but a few) but who also organised all the 'Interclub' activities this year. I'd like to say a big thank you to all of those who have been involved.
Now that we are approaching the end of the season, the planning for next season starts again.
Can you spare some time to help with next year's program?
Dinghy Fleet Captain and Cruiser Captain are just 2 of the key roles that need filling at the next sailing AGM. General help with organising, running, and planning is needed.
Please contact Steve via sailing@portchestersc.org.uk if you can spare some time to help out or talk to any flag officer for more information.

Club Boats, SUPs and Kayaks
Now that the better weather is here why not book Club Boats, SUPs and Kayaks on line for a small fee which goes towards their upkeep. Just turn to the bookings page on the website and book a slot but please read and understand the Policy before hiring as this gives hiring information and weather conditions etc. You can always join the Friday Get Afloat evenings to get some help on rigging and getting out on the water and the Sunday Dinghy Supported Sailing Coaching and Mentoring Sunday sessions (dates can be found on the Events page. In the start hut there is also a bright yellow folder with a hire form to complete each time and at the back are rigging instructions for the Club Boats. Any problems always please email me on clubboats@portchestersc.org for advice and how to access these facilities.
Louise Wells
Club Boats Officer

UPCOMING COURSES PLANNED FOR THIS AUTUMN
Already this season we've successfully completed a first aid course and two PB2 courses, all of which were well attended.
I've been asked to look at another First Aid course and PB2 course over the next couple of months. In addition there has been some interest in a VHF course sometime before the end of the year, so if anyone's interested can you please email me so that I can look at available places. As soon as dates are finalised they will be bookable on the club website

R.N.L.I Fundraising Update
Congratulations to the crew of 'Amity' on completing their epic tour of the South East Coast lifeboat stations. A few windy days were encountered at the beginning, but settled conditions helped them on their way up to 'Tower' and back.
If you haven't had an opportunity to donate toward this in support of the RNLI, but would like to, please scan the QR code at the bottom of the poster.
Thankyou on behalf of the crew to those who have supported them.
Rob Shrimpton
Vice Commodore
