GALLEY OPEN AS USUAL
The menu for this weekend is available on the Events page of the Club website.
Remember, you can reserve a table for Friday evening or Sunday lunchtime, but the only meal you need to book is the roast dinner on Sunday (and please book this by close of play on Friday).
Please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org for reservations, roast dinner orders or any special dietary requirements.
COMBINED HARBOUR REGATTA - SATURDAY 25th SEPTEMBER
All members are invited to participate in our annual get together with Hardway, Fareham and Portsmouth Sailing Clubs. This year we are hosting the event at Portchester.
We have a great schedule planned both on and off the water for sailors and non-sailors alike. Please come on down and show your support, even if you do not intend to get on the water and race.
We have an all day bar, shore-based games and kids disco, a BBQ from 15:00 - 19:00. Straight after the prizegiving at 1900, we also have some great live entertainment to boogie on down to!
Please see the outline schedule in the poster below, and watch out for further updates including how to book your BBQ food.
We intend to have one long Cruiser Race and up to three Dinghy Races. Full Sailing Instructions will be circulated shortly.
We are looking for a Committee Vessel to run the racing from, as well as a couple of rib crews. If you can assist please contact me:
STEWARDS NEEDED FOR BEACH COMPETITION
The Angling section is looking for three or more Club members to be Stewards at the Club's long-running Beach Competition, which is being held on Sunday 17th of October, from 0800 - 1700.
The job involves marshalling a set area, keeping an eye on competitors, over-seeing the beach Stewards, and making sure everybody sticks to the rules. Also, making a quick check of the beach after the event for any litter (let's keep the community happy!) and also helping with the raffle.
Volunteers will be awarded a Duty Day, so check out the VOLUNTEER link on the club website or contact me below.
NEXT WORK PARTY 2nd OCTOBER
If you still haven't done a duty day, we are planning a big work party on the 2nd October.
Please sign up on the Club Website - coffee and bacon sandwich's provided :)
More details will be on the website in the next few days.
FINAL SAILING SEASON SCHEDULE
Sadly, we are now entering the final few weeks of our core sailing season, however we do have lots of events in the calendar, so do make the most of the remaining sailing schedule and come on down and join in. Our full programme over the next few weeks is shown in the extended FORTHCOMING EVENTS schedule at the end of the newsletter.
DINGHIES OUT OF COMPOUND
To allow preparation for the Cruisers to come ashore, all Dinghies must to be removed from the compound by 12:00 on Sunday 10th October at the very latest.
Dinghies intending to participate in the final Autumn Series must email email@example.com to be allocated a new temporary space until Sunday 30th October.
WINTER DINGHY STORAGE AND SAILING
Over the winter we plan to sail at least once a month with some social and fun racing. Those members wishing to store their dinghies at the club over the winter to participate must make an application to do so via email to firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday 23rd September.
Space is limited and will be allocated on a "Ballot Basis" with members notified by 1st October. Please do not assume if you had winter dinghy storage last year then you have a space this year. We need to be fair to everyone.
NERDS! NERDS! NERDS!
As the evenings are now drawing in fast we have, sadly, seen the last of NERDS sailing on Thursdays as we have no light.
We would normally morph into 'NUTTERS' (Nerds Using Their Time Everso Really Sensibly!) and meet in the Bar to cover such things as knots, maintenance, basic racing rules etc.
These subjects are particularly useful to new sailors coming through from their Levels 1 & 2 at Andrew Simpson Watersports Centre but, due to this last year still being a bit of a weird one, there are not the usual number of newbies around to really justify asking Chris to regularly give up his evenings, so we will not be convening as NUTTERS this winter.
NERDS will resume at the start of the new season next year.
However, don't lose touch! There's still plenty of sailing to be done over the weekends and, hopefully, throughout the winter months for those more hardy ones amongst us!
A thank you goes out to Simon Orange and Brian Beavis for helping out during the summer and
lastly, but most definitely not least, I'd like to pass on a BIG Thank You to Chris Davies for all his efforts, EVERY week - we couldn't do it without you, Chris, and the confidence boost that your guidance gives us is priceless. Thank You X
All the best,
TOPPER JETS WINTER SAILING
Once again we are joining up with our local sailing clubs to provide some first class training and coaching for our up-and-coming Cadets.
JETS stands for John Elliott Training Squad and over the years many of our Cadets have participated in this fantastic opportunity.
The program is aimed at Cadets from age 9/10 upwards, who are sailing at Stage 2 or 3, have started to get involved in racing and want to improve. With JETS they can potentially be involved with Regional Training in conjunction with the Topper Class Association for the next 2 or 3 years.
We are very lucky to have Helena Lucas as our head coach, and she brings unrivalled experience and a fantastic experience to each session. She will be joined by a number of assistants who in most cases are ex-JETs, and so relate to the sailors extremely well.
The dates planned or this year are
6th November Land Day - Lee on Solent SC
Please get in touch as soon as possible if you are interested - applications are closing shortly!
